CARBON 12 is delighted to return to Abu Dhabi Art, presenting a booth where form, surface, and material are in constant conversation, an unfolding dialogue shaped by the distinct yet interconnected practices of Sarah Almehairi, Edgar Orlaineta, and André Butzer.
Each artist, through their own visual language, explores the instability of space, the memory embedded in materials, and the slippage between function and abstraction. Sarah Almehairi’s Off-Centric series navigates the tension between architectural order and personal memory, using disrupted grids and sculptural gestures to blur the line between structure and sensation. Edgar Orlaineta echoes this destabilization by transforming wood into modernist forms and hybrid objects, playful, uncanny constructions that question purpose, authorship, and design history. André Butzer’s works often include references to science fiction, hybridity, and art history. By developing a unique and elaborate fictitious universe in which he explores the definitive nature of abstract-figurative painting, Butzer’s richly hued and playful compositions avoid intellectualization.
Together, these works reflect a shared interest in reimagining how objects, images, and spaces are built, broken down, and experienced, inviting viewers to consider the ways material and memory shape our perception of the world.
